Day 5 - Tucumcari, New Mexico

 July 11, 2025

We left the Oklahoma City KOA at 6:40am

STOP 1

The first stop for charging was in Weatherford, OK next to Lucille's Cafe where we had a nice (and cheap) breakfast, although Roger said the coffee was weak.

We charged to 100% overnight at the KOA. But only had 23% when we got to the supercharger. We charged to 95% while eating breakfast (maybe 30 minutes?).

As some of you might not know, going from 90% to 100% can sometimes take an additional 20 minutes on top of going from 30% to 90% (taking 15-to-20 minutes).

STOP 2

1 hour, 45 minutes later, we stopped to charge in Shamrock, TX in an antique gas station and cafe, but we didn't go inside.

We charged from 22% to 90% @35¢ kWh taking 26 minutes.

All the stalls were head-in stalls--YAY!!!

It was slow (150kW), but we caught up on email and listened to the news from home (WHRV Hampton Roads NPR).

STOP 3

Amarillo, TX at the "Toot'n Totem"

22% to 90% 24 minutes, 35¢ kWh faster charger total cost was $26. (full tank of gas from quarter tank was over $100 last year in the truck)

There were no head-in stalls, but there was no one else there so we came in from the side and no one else came

...while we were charging so we didn't feel guilty for taking up two spaces.

We stopped for the night at Tucumcari KOA. VERY nice park. 10 out of 10.

Clean private showers with ample hot water.

Beautiful sunset as we drifted off to be ready for an early start.

Elevation helped with the heat and by the time we got there, it was much more pleasant than temps during the day.

GREAT breakfast delivered to the trailer: eggs, pancakes, bacon, coffee, milk, orange juice.

The menu was much like what you hang on a hotel door for room service breakfast.

Really great pancakes! And look how cheap it was.
