Day 32 - Headed HOME

Image
Stayed at Rifrafters in WV  In a beautiful part of WV, used Starlink and plugged in car to get us to Lexington. STOP 1 -  Lexington, VA Charged from 15% to 94% 25 minutes  (fast charger)  $25.74 Had to ask two old cowboys to move their truck that was taking two spaces--one of those stalls was the head-in stall we needed. They were not happy, but they moved. They took two spaces (for their rusty old truck) in another area (I think one was handicap). Another truck parked in charging station and left his ICE truck RUNNING while he ran into the store. I was taking my routine pictures of our rig and he asked, "you want me to get in it?" As though I was photographing HIS dirty ol truck LOL. Yeah, right.  Both incidents left a real hillbilly feel to this particular spot. Geesh. STOP 2 -  Charlottesville, VA Took 30 mins to get from 15% to 80% but it was only $10 for the session Surprising for Charlottesville Someone was parked in head-in stalls and all spaces full...

Day 31 - Driving through West Virginia

Image
August 6, 2024 Today is drive through West Virginia. Wow, what a beautiful state. Most of the drive was along the New River.  STOP 1 - West Virginia We got 100% last night at Love's. So drove to 29% and c harged to 100% It took 50 minutes and cost  $28.35 In looking ahead, there is no longer a Tesla Supercharger in Huntington, so we are nervous about getting to Charleston STOP 2 - Charleston, WV We made it! This was a very popular spot. Full spaces so we couldn't ask the one car in the head-in spot to move. So we disconnected and backed in. Of course, now there are a few empty spaces. But the  guy in the he ad-in was still charging when we left, so we did the right thing by just unhooking. We have the hooking and unhooking down to a system so it's no big deal. Ended up at Rifrafters in West Virginia. This a beautiful park with water running through gorgeous woods. Very nice spot. Full Hookups. Were able to plug in Susan and use Starlink.

Day 30 - Through Missouri, Illinois & Indiana

Image
STOP 1 -  St. Louis, MO It was a super fast one We went 16% to 80%  in 15 minutes  No Head-ins so we had to disconnect  It was very busy, but since its so fast people leave quickly and a space opened up just as we finished unhooking. It was in the parking lot af an interesting building. Looks like it might be a LEED build. STOP 2 -  Mt Vernon, IL  Fast charger with an open head-in stall.  It was behind a DoubleTree Inn. We charged from 19% to 85% in 20 minutes for $23 Barely had time to make & eat tuna sandwiches (our usual) with chips and sweet pickles. STOP 3 -  Haubstadt, IN  No head-ins but we were able to safely use stall on the end only blocking two spaces. We charged from 33% to 80% in 10 minutes  Cost was $17 session  I bought Twizzlers at the Mach1 Mart and had just enough time to get back and hit the road again. That night we stayed at a   LOVE's truck stop in Leavenworth, Indiana.  They now have really...

Day 29 - Kansas & Missouri to Serenity Valley Winery

Image
STOP 1- Abilene, Kansas Had breakfast burritos from the mart & microwaved in trailer (love having that inverter) Charged from 20% to 90% which took 25 mins, and cost $20 One [open] head-in stall Also bought potatoes, carrots & oranges STOP 2 - Topeka, Kansas 12:12p Central Time  At a LOVEs mini truck stop CHarged from 43%to 90% took 20 mins and cost  $19.44 No head-in stalls, but since neither of the  Electrify America  stalls were working, we weren't concerned about blocking them to use the Tesla supercharger.  Had peanut butter & Marc's (apricot?) preserves sandwiches for lunch while charging. STOP 3 -  Concordia, Missouri There were Tesla Superchargers in a Casey's parking lot.  One Head-in stall and it was available! 250kW (fast)  23% to 90% in 20 minutes and cost  $21 STOP 4 -  Columbia, MO Charged from 40% to 90% in 20 minutes  One charger was not working out of   12 stalls, 2 head-ins Some kind person wr...

Day 28 - on to Ad Astra!

Image
August 3, 2024 STOP 1 1 head in and no wait 250kW Tesla Supercharger  Superior, CO at a gas station  Charged from 20%to 90% took 25 minutes  We had a Starbucks breakfast  STOP 2 Limon, CO 40 % tp 100%  45 mins  cost was $20 (slow but cheap) Were able to park behind stalls in a dirt lot so no need to disconnect STOP 3 We went from 11% to 100%  took only 27 minutes and only cost $25 No head-in stalls, but it was open on the end so we could do minimal stall blocking  Had a Sonic burger for lunch (it just smelled so good) Lots of empty stalls  STOP 4 Charged from 5% to 90% (348mi/hr) took 25 minutes  No head-ins, but we came in from side again.  We stayed at Ad Astra that night. A decommissioned nuclear missile silo.  (I know, right?) Apparently oil was pumped here at one time. The spot is surrounded by huge wind turbines, giving a surreal feel to the whole experience. We were able to use the generator to cool off the T.A.R.D.I.S. ...

More Day 27 - Superior, Colorado

Image
August 2, 2024 Such a nice visit with Bill and Alice.  We went for a walk and were surprised by the "moving of the goats" as their neighborhood green space is maintained by a large herd of goats.   And, after dinner, Alice and I were serenaded all evening. We went for ice cream in the next town, and explored the street event that was going on. There was live music playing in all the clubs and restaurants as we walked around. We parked the trailer in their driveway and had a great night's sleep as it was extremely quiet in their neighborhood.   We give this stop FIVE STARS!
