Day 25 - Driving through Nevada

             On the road, through                              Nevada-->







STOP 1 - Charged to 98% at KOA last night. So we drove for a couple of hours before stopping at an Exxon gas station that had Tesla Superchargers



This stop was 30% to 90%
We got brunch at Temptations (paninis), a coffee shop about a block away.







And this is just cool. There are times I just got fascinated by the satellite images.












STOP 2 after 2.5 hours was in Winnemucca, NV
We charged from 40% to 100% in 20 minutes!
Cost was $24.20 
There were lots of head-in stalls

Susan (the car) says we will only have 12% when we get there, so we'll stop in Elko before we get to the Ranch. We have identified a couple other chargers on the way.

STOP 3 was in Elko, NV



Charged from 23% to 85%. 15 minutes (83kW at 75%)
The cost was $23

It was in the parking lot of Raley's, a small grocery store.




                Had to disconnect again. 
                There were no head-in stalls.







We arrived at "Rails to Roads Ranch" in Deeth, Nevada in time to hook up with 60%.

Even though it's a Harvest Host, he has full hookups for $20.

Google maps works great. Got us to the gate.

We used the Starlink and updated software in the car, which will help her estimate range while towing better.


Eric was very accommodating. Even tried to get us hooked up to a 50 amp receptacle but it was too far unless we unhooked. We decided to get what we could from 30 amp and charge sooner in the morning.

Plugged in Susan got to 75% overnight, even on the 30 amp hookup. We had AC all night or probably would have made it to 100%.



My only complaint was that it was very dry and dusty, which was not Eric's fault. The smoke was still pretty evident from all the wildfires from California through Nevada. But we could still see lots of stars that night, which made it worth it.

July 9, 2024 Night 2's Nashville's KOA was just okay. Good thing the AC is on to drown out the traffic noise. Roger said there was hot water but the showers are small plastic stalls. The park is between an open mining pit and a very busy freeway. Also lots of biting bugs, but we have spray for that. Hope this is the worst KOA on this leg of the trip. They are usually much nicer than this one. On the other hand, dinner was lobster tails over raw carrot/zucchini salad. I used our RV induction cooktop and am very pleased with it. Best $99 I have spent in a while. Charging was interesting today. The extreme heat effects range so we stopped 4 times. This was fine because we were drinking lots of water 😊. Let's just say it's nice to be bringing your own bath along with you. Stop1 was Tesla Supercharger at Holiday Inn Express in Dickson, TN. 53% to 90% costing $9.70 and took 20 minutes. DAY 1 - HERE WE GO AGAIN

This photo is from our first charger stop at a SHEETZ in Farmville, VA. There were no pull-in bays, so we pulled in sideways, leaving 4 spots still open. It was that or disconnect, which seemed stupid. I should make note of miles and state of charge. Starting tomorrow I will.  It's all so new as we have had the trailer since November 2022, three weeks ago, we traded in our (Tesla) Model 3 for a Model X (SUV) that can pull the trailer. That way we could keep our lovely truck, but not chance another cross country trip with her.  So, there will be lots of charging info as well as camping info in this year's blog. The first leg of the trip had to be cut from 2 weeks to 1, so we are going straight across and (other than tonight) are staying at KOAs all the way through. Day 32 - Headed HOME

Stayed at Rifrafters in WV  In a beautiful part of WV, used Starlink and plugged in car to get us to Lexington. STOP 1 -  Lexington, VA Charged from 15% to 94% 25 minutes  (fast charger)  $25.74 Had to ask two old cowboys to move their truck that was taking two spaces--one of those stalls was the head-in stall we needed. They were not happy, but they moved. They took two spaces (for their rusty old truck) in another area (I think one was handicap). Another truck parked in charging station and left his ICE truck RUNNING while he ran into the store. I was taking my routine pictures of our rig and he asked, "you want me to get in it?" As though I was photographing HIS dirty ol truck LOL. Yeah, right.  Both incidents left a real hillbilly feel to this particular spot. Geesh.
